CAMP EXPERIENCE
Join camp for one week or all six, you decide!
Each week features a different project where students will have the freedom to explore several different types of mediums and methods of application. Students are encouraged to be playful and curious, with a focus on the process of creating art rather than the result.
This camp is open to any teen artists ages 13-16 regardless of skill level - no experience needed!
All you need is an open mind, and you will find a place to experiment and grow. Join us to discover new techniques, gain confidence in your artistic voice, and create lasting friendships that extend beyond camp.
Week 1
May 27 - May 30
Polish Poster Design
-
Polish poster design is like a visual playground where bold colors, surreal imagery, and quirky hand-drawn typography come together to tell powerful stories. Peaking in the 1950s and 60s, these posters weren’t just about selling movies or events—they were works of art, packed with symbolism, humor, and creativity. Unlike the glossy commercial ads of the West, Polish designers turned posters into bold, thought-provoking statements. Artists like Henryk Tomaszewski and Jan Lenica led the way, making this movement a legendary chapter in graphic design history that still inspires creatives today!
-
This week students will create their own posters influenced by the bright and colorful mid-century Polish Poster designs. Students will use collage, markers, and printmaking techniques to create layers, texture, and patterns.

Week 2
June 2 - June 6
Mini to Max
-
Imagine doodling a tiny sketch, then seeing it blown up to three times its original size — pretty cool, right? When something small becomes big, every little detail takes on new meaning, and what once felt insignificant can become bold and powerful. A simple line turns into a sweeping stroke, a tiny texture becomes a landscape, and suddenly, your perspective shifts. It’s like zooming in on a secret world you never noticed before or stepping back to see the bigger picture.
-
This week, students will transform their doodles into larger, more detailed pieces of artwork, expanding on their original designs. We will learn about color theory, color design, pattern design, and replication techniques.

Week 3
June 9 - June 13
Picasso Portraits
-
With his signature cubist style, Picasso took the human face and turned it into a playful puzzle, breaking it apart and putting it back together in wild, unexpected ways. Eyes might be on the side of the head, noses could float in mid-air, and faces are often made up of bold shapes and colors that seem to dance across the canvas. His portraits invite you to see people from a totally different angle, proving that there’s no one "right" way to capture someone's essence—just endless possibilities to explore!
-
This week, it's all about making bold, surprising self-portraits! Students will dive into the world of Picasso by using cardboard, paint, collage techniques, and markers to create unique, eye-catching works of art. Get ready for some funky, out-of-the-box portraits that break all the rules and capture each student's personality in a totally new way!

Week 4
June 16 - June 20
Spin* Splatter* Drip* Drizzle
-
This week is all about channeling the wild energy of Jackson Pollock, the raw creativity of Jean-Michel Basquiat, and the fluid magic of Helen Frankenthaler! These trailblazing artists threw out the rulebook with their unconventional techniques, and their bold, innovative styles still spark inspiration in artists today.
-
Let creativity run wild! Students will let gravity, chance, and energy take the lead creating exciting, unpredictable textures, and turning the canvas into a dynamic, spontaneous performance, where each splash tells a story. These techniques push the boundaries of art, allowing artists to embrace chaos and the beauty of the unexpected!

Card Deck Design
-
Designing card decks is like creating a tiny, portable work of art! Each card is its own canvas, where you can let your imagination run wild—whether it’s designing quirky characters, bold patterns, or mysterious symbols. You can play with colors, themes, and styles, turning a simple deck of cards into a storytelling masterpiece or a fun, visual adventure.
-
This week, class will take a fun and creative spin on an everyday item – a deck of cards! Students can choose to give a traditional deck a fresh twist or design their own totally unique deck from scratch. We'll be using paint, collage, and markers to bring our card creations to life.

Magic Abounds
-
Creating sculptures from found objects is like going on a treasure hunt - you never know what amazing materials you’ll discover. Almost anything can be turned into something completely new and exciting. Our inspiration is Louise Nevelson, who turned everyday objects into sculptural masterpieces - you can view one of her larger pieces downtown at the KY Performing Arts Center!
-
This week we are looking at everyday objects with fresh eyes and imagining them in a whole new way. Students will stack and assemble their objects into a quirky masterpiece, each piece telling its own story. With found objects, the possibilities are endless, and every sculpture is a fun mix of creativity, resourcefulness, and a little bit of artistic magic!
